5 Days in Iceland

Iceland, a Nordic island nation, is defined by its dramatic landscape with volcanoes, geysers, hot springs and lava fields. Massive glaciers are protected in Vatnajökull and Snæfellsjökull national parks. Most of the population lives in the capital, Reykjavik, which runs on geothermal power and is home to the National and Saga museums, tracing Iceland’s Viking history.

Iceland’s extraordinary landscape, strong sense of community, and entrepreneurial spirit have fostered a vibrant and distinctive cultural scene. Creativity runs deep—from ancient sagas to globally celebrated films, music, literature, and design. Equally central to Icelandic culture are the values of equality, inclusivity, and freedom of expression.

Sustainability is at the heart of travel in Iceland. Our landscapes are fragile and our communities small, which makes responsible travel essential, without taking away from the joy and sense of adventure that make a trip here so special.

DAY 1 -Sólheimar Eco-Village

Tucked off the Golden Circle route, the village of Sólheimar invites you into one of Iceland’s most inspiring sustainability experiments. Founded in July 1930 by Sesselja Sigmundsdóttir, its name means “Home of the Sun.” It’s a fitting moniker for a place that blends organic farming, social inclusion, and ecological innovation.

DAY 2 - Blue Lagoon

As you explore eco-friendly Iceland, few stops are as stunning as the Blue Lagoon. Besides being a globally famous attraction, the Blue Lagoon is a pioneering model of sustainable tourism and industrial symbiosis. Remember, its iconic milky-blue pool is not a natural lake. Rather, these waters are the mineral-rich discharge from the nearby Svartsengi Geothermal Power Plant.

DAY 3 - West Iceland

On the far western tip of the Snæfellsnes Peninsula lies one of Iceland’s most storied landscapes: Snæfellsjökull National Park. Here, a glacier-capped stratovolcano rises from the sea, black lava fields sprawl inland, and seabirds thunder from cliff ledges. Its stunning variety of natural wonders earned the peninsula the nickname “Iceland in miniature.”
